WHY I MAKE MY ART…
As a professional in high stress environments for close to twenty years , my other life has been to paint , write novels and screenplays. Predictably, and happily, the more appealing artist/writer half of my life has started taking over my Type-A persona. Cheers!
“Kineta” very much communicates a metaphor about the struggle between my Type-A persona and balance. “Kineta” is Greek for “…active one…” “Kineta” is also the name of my Border collie, who now, in her twilight years can look back on her day, and recall when she worked until told to stop, or until she would fall over flat from outright exhaustion.
I’ll never forget the first time I worked her too hard, for too long and she did just that… She fell over in what appeared near death. Fortunately for the both of us, there were many more days thereafter, when I would look at her in her state of reasonable exhaustion, the sunset at her back, and the browns and greens of the rolling hills to either side of her. Following her tired gaze, one learns how she looks over and deep into the flock before her, the animals calm, as made tired and ready for the fast approaching before dusk nautical time.
HOW DID I CREATE “KINETA” AND WHAT IS “KINETA” MADE OUT OF…?
Usually working from a simple sketch or drawing, I have remained partial to using mixed media and enjoy the flexibility of creating various media combinations for various projects. I have also been partial to using board canvas and to limit the size to what I believe is a comfortable,
manageable dimension of 16H x 20W or smaller.
“Kineta” is made with acrylic paints with chalk applied over the paint in various ways. Thereafter, I used thick black marker and medium black ink pen for accent, detail and outline. Thereafter, I “fix” the work with spray form of Clear Acrylic Sealer –Gloss, however, as much is not only about fixing the work. It is important to mention this last aspect of the creative process, because I consider the application of this Gloss product essential to achieving differing effects with the chalk, depending on the method of application.
WHAT MY ART MEANS TO ME…
The notion of creating art work on a regular basis was introduced to me by a wonderful friend, who cared enough and who took the time to tell a thick Type -A person like me it would be good for my soul. It is. It is and now my art means more and more to me with every project, with
every struggle to get something right and, with the constant reminder it provides that there is always the alternative of balance to Type-A... Amen and thank you for that…
Most Sincerely,
Mitch Baker

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY AND RESUME
G. MITCHELL BAKER
Having practiced “Chicago Law” in New Mexico from 1989 to 2007, G. Mitchell Baker now lives in Edgewood, New Mexico. Having taken up the pen in private, beginning in 1997, to take-up his father’s legacy, the resulting body of work now grows in a less private manner, with a progression from novel writing, to screenplays and, to include the writing and illustration of children’s books. Having taken up the brush in 2007, Mitch Baker paints, ignorant of formal art education and technique, now regularly producing works featuring family themes, pet themes, and baseball themes for pure joy, the public’s interest, and now to illustrate children’s books.
